Why pay extra for handmade?
Well, I'll be completely honest. You can probably get the same sized table some place else, and likely for a lot less money. However, when you order a piece from us, you not only get locally and sustainably sourced solid wood, traditional, time tested methods of joinery, and a fully customized piece, you also get full access to the maker. We're so committed to our craft we put our name on each piece. Not a logo or corporate brand, our signature. We're not interested in building cheap, quick or trendy furniture, we're interested in building quality furniture.
What exactly is "joinery"?
If you're paying more for traditional joinery I guess you ought to know what exactly it is and why you would want it. Joinery is, simply put, the way two pieces of wood are joined together. A table leg to a stretcher, a cabinet side to the cabinet top, or a drawer front to the drawer sides. Mortise and tenons, dovetails, bridle joints; wood to wood joints with mechanical strength. Methods that take a bit longer to execute but are proven to last much, much longer. There are quick, easy, cheap ways of doing things, that usually don't last, and there are better, time tested ways, that do last. There's an old saying that goes something like this; "Happiness in a cheap product is soon replaced by disappointment in a poorly made product" or something like that.
